چکیده

Pharmaceutical companies today face a growing demand for more complex drug designs. In the past few decades, a number of probabilistic models have been developed, for the purpose of giving a better insight into the microscopic features of these complex designs. Of particular interest are those models that simulate controlled release systems to provide targeted dose delivery. Controlled release is achieved by using polymers with different dissolution characteristics. We present here a model of a drug delivery system based on Monte Carlo methods, as a framework for Cellular Automata mobility, and show a solution for model enhancement through parallelisation. The objective is the high performance simulation of targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract, from a capsule composed of ethylcellulose coated microspheres. The overall aim is to understand the importance of various molecular effects with respect to system evolution over time. Important underlying mechanisms of the process, such as erosion and diffusion, are described. Keywords-Drug dissolution, Probabilistic methods, Discrete simulation, Computational modelling, OpenMP parallelisation

Preparation of Ethylcellulose Coated Gelatin Microspheres as a Multiparticulate Colonic Delivery System for 5-Aminosalicilic Acid

In the long-term management of ulcerative colitis patients, repeat dosing maybe required. Since 5-ASA is largely absorbed from the upper intestine, selective delivery of drugs into the colon may be regarded as a better method of drug delivery with fewer side effects and a higher efficacy. The aim of this study was to prepare and evaluate a double coated multiparticulate system for 5-ASA deliver...

Preparation and Determination of Drug-Polymer Interaction and In-vitro Release of Mefenamic Acid Microspheres Made of Cellulose Acetate Phthalate and/or Ethylcellulose Polymers

The objective of this study was to formulate and evaluate the drug-polymer interaction of mefenamic acid (MA) using two polymers with different characteristics as ethylcellulose (EC) and/or cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP). Microspheres were prepared by the modified emulsion solvent evaporation (MESE). The effect of drug-polymer interaction was studied for each of microspheres. Important param...

Preparation and in vitro Evaluation of Ethylcellulose Coated Egg Albumin Microspheres of Diltiazem Hydrochloride

The aim of the present investigation was to develop sustained release ethylcellulose-coated egg albumin microspheres of diltiazem hydrochloride (DH) to improve patient compliance. The microspheres were prepared by the w/o emulsion thermal cross-linking method using different proportion of the polymer to drug ratio (1.0:1.0, 1.0:1.5 and 1.0:2.0). A 3(2) full factorial design was employed to opti...
